From security gates to air traffic control, the airport systems that rely on power to operate are critical to the safety and comfort of employees and travelers alike.
That’s why it’s imperative that an airport ensures its electrical systems are up-to-date and in good repair.
One client was contracted to do just that – but they needed an unusual piece of equipment to do the job right.
Providing electrical contracting services to the commercial, industrial and institutional sectors, this Saskatchewan-based client specializes in construction, project management, design/build and service/maintenance projects. From small calls to large scale projects, this client is a leader in delivering innovative, tech-savvy solutions.
This approach, along with a commitment to excellence and integrity, has led to long-lasting relationships with their clients.
When an international airport needed some electrical upgrades, they called our client, whose reputation had preceded them.
For the safety of airport employees and travelers alike, having a backup power system in place while the upgrades were being performed was crucial.
The problem? The right backup system for the job would require a 300kVA 600-4160V step-up transformer – an uncommon voltage.
Unable to find a viable solution through other vendors, our client reached out to Trinity Power.
Looking first to our in-house fleet of temporary power equipment, we quickly realized that we did not have the transformer our client needed.
Luckily, Trinity Power works hard to maintain close ties and open communication with our large network of vendors — partners whom we’ve chosen carefully because they share our commitment to excellence.
Reaching out to this network, the Trinity team was able to source a 1000kVA 600V-4160V transformer from a vendor in South Dakota; although oversized in terms of kVA, the unit would still fulfill our client’s voltage requirements.
With the client’s approval, we reserved the unit until it was required on site.
Along with the transformer, Trinity also provided a 230kW generator and 25 feet of cable to run between the two pieces of equipment.
With the backup power equipment sourced, our client was able to turn their focus to other aspects of the project. And because the equipment was on site when the client needed it, they were able to conduct the electrical upgrades on schedule, while ensuring that the airport’s operations would be able to carry on as usual.
Trinity’s inventory and flexible approach allowed us to support our client as their requirements shifted.
Interrupting operations during a weekend shutdown wasn’t an option for a large and busy container facility.
